In this project we learn to measure and construct orthographic projection drawings by hand. How to use drawing equipment appropriately and explore techniques of hatching and shading.
The first task is to capture the croissant in different angles in order to draw it at the next step.
Measure the croissant is to make sure we do not resize it when insert it into a digital file, we can have a 1:1 size croissant in the sketching step.
The techniques I mostly use are hatching and crosshatching. Trace out the shapes and outlines of the croissant by 2B pencil was the first step. Then darken the lines of the texture with a 4B pencil to make the layers more significant. Lastly, 6B pencil to hatch over the darker parts of the croissant. For the plan view, I use 0.2 liner and 0.1 liner to outline every line of the croissant. Then 0.4liner with cross hatching to make the texture distinct from each other in order to create the hierarchy.
To construct the axonometric view of the croissant, I draw a 10mm*10mm grid over the croissant’s sections. Mark the intersection of the section lines and the grid which is the key point for the following steps. The next step is to draw a45 degree line and make the axonometric grid then set up the position of three sections with he marks on the plan. My tips for the axonometric is to take a picture of the half croissant in the same angle which helps a lot while drawing the surface and the texture.
