Project aim

In this project we learn to determine differences between ‘subjective’ and ‘objective’ points of view, the thought that begins to define 2d and 3d spatial constructions, and their impact on perception.

Process

1. Building Blocks for Creating a World

We are given a image from Mario world, the task is to turn the 2d image to a 3d world. First of all we need to pick elements that we would like to construct our world.
I chose pipes, blocks, coins, question mark blocks, cylinders, and metal cuboids for my Mario world. The pipes are the elements that I used to link components together; blocks are the main elements throughout the project that I use to achieve variety. Moreover, coins and question mark blocks are used for making the world more joyful. The colour palette I chose for my world is less saturated to create a vivid but soft and gentle vibe.

2. Making of the Projected World

The idea of my Mario world comes from the production line within a factory. Coins and the yellow blocks represent the products that have been manufactured. Blocks and pipes in various shapes represent the conveyors and machines, which are prominent for linking up the whole world. It creates interaction and variety for my world. I insert a few coins and yellow blocks in the hidden space to make people enjoy while they explore the details.

3. Colour and shading

My Mario world did not have a clear boundary between each level because there are no floor elements, which make colours and shading important in my world. I use gradients for pipe sand cuboid blocks for the sense of depth. After the colour step is done, I make a new layer for shading and fill the button parts with translucent grey to create the levels.
